Name[ edit ] Documents from the 17th century variously render the spelling of Tisquantum’s name as Tisquantum, Tasquantum, and Tusquantum, and alternately call him Squanto, Squantum, Tantum, and Tantam. William Bradford nicknamed him “Squanto” while Edward Winslow invariably referred to him by what historians believe is his proper name, Tisquantum. Rather it was “the spiritual potency of an object … or a phenonmenon,” the force which made “everything in Nature responsive to man.
The name may suggest, for example, that he underwent special spiritual and military training as a pniesesock, or otherwise , and for this reason was selected for his role as liaison with the English settlers in see below. The indigenous culture from which Squanto came[ edit ] “[T]he time and circumstances of Squanto’s birth are unknown. For the rest of the legend, see Pilgrim Hall Museum. While records do not exist which describe his childhood or years before his abduction, a description of the social world in which he lived during his formative years may provide some insight.

Retired railwaymen and steam fans gathered at Guildford railway station on Farnham Road bridge on Sunday July 9 for the unveiling of a plaque to commemorate Guildford’s engine shed that closed exactly 50 years ago. In his speech to around 40 people who gathered at the pedestrian entrance to the car park, Geoff Burch said – ‘It doesn’t seem that long ago when Pat Kinsella and I departed from here aboard our respective locomotives BR Standard Class 5 Nos and to go light-engines to Salisbury, not forgetting the other drivers and firemen who left here that day.
This occasion was originally an idea of another old steam colleague, Bill Moore, who thought it would be a good idea for a few of us to meet up here and go for a drink afterwards. However, Bill Bunce, Pat Kinsella and I put our heads together and came up with an idea which has ended up a full-blown plaque unveiling ceremony! Also I must thank the following people who have generously made donations towards the costs of the plaque; without them, it wouldn’t have been possible: Fortunately, we were still able to raise most of the funds as a result of the kind generosity of persons completely unconnected with the railway industry who genuinely believe that this place is still part of Guildford’s heritage.
Now a little bit about our invited guest Richard Greenwood. Rochdale-born and bred and with railways in his blood, Richard attended the Law College at Guildford during whilst I was working here as an engine cleaner and young fireman. With a keen photographer’s eye, he captured hundreds of superb images of locomotives and I’m therefore indebted to Richard for his kindness in allowing me use a number of them in various books that I’ve self-published.

Share this article Share But two years ago, when one friend sat Wendy down and told her she should start acting her age, she listened. Until this turnaround, Wendy had spent 20 years dating men much younger than her, whom she met through friends or dating websites. But an infatuation with toyboys certainly wasn’t something Wendy always aspired to. She was twice married to men her own age – once at 21 for two years, and then again four years later.

He was admitted a member of Trinity College, Cambridge, on 5 June as a subsizar, and became scholar in and Bachelor of Arts in The rooms he occupied are not known for certain; and we have no knowledge as to the subject of his thesis for the B.
Head Gasket Towards the end of Bee didn’t seem to be pulling so well, and sounded a bit rough backing into the garage. Checking the carbs the rear was OK on the lifting pin but the front didn’t give the usual response. Checking the plugs the front pair looked a bit weak, so richened going for max idle when turning the nut, but the lifting pin still didn’t do much.
I’d deliberately left the Bosch 4-point plugs in well over 10k just to see what happened, no mechanical wear, but decided the experiment had gone on long enough so fitted a new set of NGKs.

Many of the photos originally shown here, and some which remain, were taken by him years ago when he was just getting interested into railroad photography and railfanning. Understandably, the quality of some of these older photos is not high. Jones has been travelling around the Carolinas for many years hunting out present and former stations and photographing them.
He has contributed several hundred excellent photos of depots and other railroad structures for this site. Because of the higher quality of digital photography, in some cases, Mr. Jones’ photos have replaced those which originally appeared on this site. Many of these photos depict stations which no longer exist. We also thank Rev.
